Creative Channel plans to launch Hindi movie channel "Manoranjan TV"

Mumbai-based agency Creative Channel is looking to launch a Hindi movie channel called Manoranjan TV.

The channel has received clearance from the government and has tied up with India Signs teleport in Gurgaon for uplinking purposes. Manoranjan TV will initially be targeted at the Hindi speaking markets and will be free to air (FTA).


The company, which earlier specialised in ad films, promotions and air time sales, claims to have acquired a slate of 300 Hindi films to mark its foray into the television space.

Creative Channel managing director Babar Chopra, who will be heading Manoranjan TV, said, "We are ready to launch a Hindi movie channel called Manoranjan TV by 1 September. We have secured government approval and will be uplinlikng the channel through our association with India Signs whose teleport is in Delhi."

"Manoranjan TV will have a mix of movies and Bollywood news. We have put together 300 - 400 Hindi films to mark our entry into the Hindi movie channel market. Our core markets are Delhi, UP, Bihar, Haryana, Gujarat and even Maharasthra," adds Chopra.

He declined to comment on the financial terms of his latest venture. He, however, stated he this company is equipped to handle both the distribution and marketing of the upcoming channel.

Reliance ADAG will kick off the broadcasting initiative with the launch of two movie channels, a source familiar with the development says. This will be a logical extension from ADAG's existing film production and distribution business.


"While one will be a Hindi movie channel, the other will be in the English genre," the source adds.

The movie channels will be the best way to kickstart Reliance's broadcasting business even as it plans to launch its DTH and IPTV services. Besides, it will synergise with Reliance's existing movie business, providing content to the channels.

Reliance has roped in Filmy business head Ashutosh to be its COO for the movie channels,
